Considered an advanced elective, Magical Healing is offered to sixth-year students and up through the graduate program. Since it is an advanced elective, there are a limited number of spots for the class, and only those students with the best grades and that pass a pretest are admitted in as Madam Esmae doesn't tolerate any slackers wasting her time.
Madam Esmae in her I introductory speech to her class has this to say:
"Unlike your other classes, this one has lethal repercussions for failure. Not all mistakes are fatal, some will permanently maim your patient rendering them catatonic. When we get these people, they're already defenseless and in need of help and compassion. In my class you will work hard. You will be held to perhaps the highest standard of any class offered here at Gerhardt. If you feel that you aren't ready to devote yourself completely to this coursework then I will have you removed from the course now, no complaints. If you stay and slack off, I will have a serious talk with you and kick you out. Now, let us begin, shall we?"
In comparison to non-magical medicine, magical healing is far superior and is leaps and bounds ahead of the non-magical counterpart. There are a plethora of magical illnesses that exist as well that they learn to treat with an expansive arsenal of healing potions. One of the hardest to treat is the Faber Flu. To this date, it is believed that it only affects Purebloods and takes weeks to recover from with a 96 hou quarantine time for those that show symptoms.
Those that have a high enough grade in the class are eligible to receive a recommendation letter for a chance to get a job at St Rogers Hospital for Magical Illnesses.
